i can not tell you why it is taking %100 of your cpu ,niether any one in the forum ,the only one who could determine your problem is yourself since you are the one who has a physical access to the pc,lpen your device manager and show all process from all users, look what is taking too much use and try to look for it if it is a system process than you have a problemin your system,if it is a program try to see why it behave this way.
good luck.try to determine when did that started to happen ,what did you install lately.

I had a similar problem just recently at work with Win 2000 Pro. It began just after I downloaded and installed the cumulative patches supplied via windows update. The application taking up all the resources was svchost.exe, not to be confused with scvhost.exe, which is a virus. I found this out by simply opening the task manager and looking at the processes running (as has been suggested in previous posts). Once I uninstalled the "hotfixes" (as M$ calls them) the problem corrected itself and saved me a big headace of reinstalling windows...which is another option. I don't know if this same issue applies to win XP, but if you have recently installed any updates, other then SP1, I would look carefuly at this possibility.

Hope this helps.

If you have ZoneAlarm installed I have had problems with that hogging all the resources. Uninstall it, delete its folder/files and install it again.
