A REPORT IN PC Week, renamed e-week before the dotcom.bubble popped, said that Microsoft has warned its shareholders it might have to drop prices on its software.
This will horrify system builders who have now got used to Microsoft Windows being the most expensive "component" of a PC.

The Vole made its warning in a filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

It believes "Open Source" and its proponents are weakening its business model and are lobbying governments worldwide.

If Micro$haft ever significantly reduce the price of their software i will bare my butt and run down the local high street with it hanging out. Never going to happen IMHO, how will Bill ever be able to buy his own planet if they drop the prices???

There are ways to get legal copies for very cheap from MS if you know how, like the partner programs. My bud got tens of thousands worth of legal MS software for becoming a partner. Paid? $300 bucks. I wouldn't pay retail for MS software though. Way too expensive.
