I've been using port 27015 to do most of my FTP serving now, but I'm afraid that my ISP (AT&T) may routinely check that port. Are there any other good ports for running an FTP that aren't monitored by ISPs?

Hi Blackhawk, any ISP that is worth its salt would monitor the packet Send/Received ratio of your connection. If the amount of "Sent" packets is much higher than the "Received" amount then you look like a "Provider" of "Something". Could be you are "Providing" files or Web pages etc. which are mostly files also.

If your connection shows up at or close to the top of the list then you will likely be talking to them.

I used to get scanned by my ISP alot when I was in TX... so I figured out the IPs they scanned me from, banned them on my firewalls.... and called and complained to them that I knew what they were doing and felt that they were disturbing my privacy and ruining my service at the same time because it would almost allways kill my connection when they did it. I was VERY vocal when I spoke with them and threatend to drop my service if this didn't stop.... so guess what.... it stopped

Also... you could read this posted right in this very section of our forums:

It should at least give you some ideas as to which ports you can use if you don't know.

I tend to change my port once or twice a week. Just depends on my mood which number I choose

Isn't 27015 a popular gaming port, which is why it tends to be used so frequently?

It is recomended that you swap your port if your running an anonymous ftp.

Also if you have members to your ftp they all need to be let know about this change.

Use some weird number like 61087. If you know VB, you could write a small app that would generate a random # from 1 - 65535.
