Just Reformatted Drive In Ntfs

Hi there:

Just reformatted my C: partition in NTFS format (have had many problems, thought it might help). However, my other partitions D: & E: are formatted in FAT 32; is it advisable to make any changes or should "if it ain't broke don't fix it" apply here.

but if you do decide to make the other two partitions NTFS, you don't have to reformat them, from a dos window type

Is your partitions are in the same Hard Disk?

It might help you to get a decision.
Personally I prefer to have all partitions with one file system, as long as I use only Windows 2000/XP

Please be aware of the fact that when you convert a FAT drive to NTFS, the cluster size becomes 512k. If you like it then it is alright. But if you don't I think you will better do it by Partition Magic.

Actually one of the partitions is on the same disk, so essentially the "master" will have two file systems on it. (OS: XP Pro)

@annyjay - boy you are a glutton for punishment! Did you install the Recovery Console, too? Maybe one of the NTFS experts here can advise as to whether it is a good idea or not.

I have been running drives with mixed file systems since the beginning of XP , however I have always had the C:\ primary partition fat32 , as for secondary drives you can pretty well mix and match as you please. Just be aware that any non FAT32 drives will not show up in win9x. Have fun

@richardc2000 - well yes maybe a bit of a glutton for punishment, but then again if you aren't reformatting every few weeks, you just can't be trying hard enough (LOL). Thank you for the information on the Recovery Console - definately news to me!

@Raid762 - thank you for your input. Am actually planning to run '98 on a separate computer (old P1) which will chiefly used for storage of media files - do you think this would be a problem?

Something like NTFS Pro. or someshit.

Had it awhile ago and it worked great. Had Win98 FAT32 and Win NTFS and it allowed my Win98 to read and write to my files that i used with winxp. using ntfs

Pretty sweet. Think i downloaded it from BearCat. Dont really remember.
