Hi Guys,

It is almost three months since SP1 is released, and it is enough to gather experience to have some remark about it.

You may have installed SP1 by the express installation, by the network installation or by slipstreaming it with Windows XP and installing it from scratch...whatever

Are you happy with SP1? or not? Did you feel things are running smoother? or not? Did you get abnormal malfunctions? Freezed screens? or not? There are lots of thing you may felt. Please discuss here

I would be looking forward to your ideas please ... as I feel Windows XP was better than this SP1. I made this statement after having more than three times of software malfunctions since I installed Windows XP SP1, which never happened before.

At the moment writing this, my FlashGet is struck. Cannot use the Task Manager to end the task...how many times I right clicked and ended the task? Still it is there. Also Norton AntiVirus 2003 Professional, sometimes when Windows restarts, it is not Auto-protect enabled. No one disabled it. Sometimes Explorer Windows stops responding too. I can't blame FlashGet. I can't blame Norton AntiVirus. There gave no trouble for me before. May be now there compatible much with SP1.

You guys may have more things to say. You will say something which is good about SP1 too -- which I am eargerly waiting to hear too....

I have had no problems whatsoever with SP1 which I installed by the express installation.
I also install a XP SP1 from stratch on another machine and the only hickup was that the CD (very old one) would not autorun althrough all the settings appeared to be correct.
This installation was only a trial as this machine usually runs ME so that I can run programmes which will not run under XP.

I have XP with SP1 integrated in one CD......All is working fine for me, except for sfc /scannow Windows always ask me for the good CD This is very bad.

All the other stuff are running perfectly. I have change my CPU, mobo, and ram with the option "repair" and all was ok.

I also have installed XP with SP1 to another PC last week and it's runnig perfectly too

For me, SP1 is really a good thing.

No troubles. Every works with SP-1. The big value to me was the USB 2.0 fixes. I use an external USB 2.0 hd and it couldn't be accessed by other computers on the LAN before SP-1.

Have installed WinXP Pro Msdn Sp-1 on 4 different computers, and never a problem. Scanners work well. Everything from dial-up, dsl, routers, and 2 hooked up to RV via ATI 7500AIW and
8500AIW cards, and dual booting with ME and WIN98SE.
Before SP we had occasional problems with shutting down...sometimes it would hang when it got to the "saving settings" point.

I think SP-! is a considerable improvement.
2 Pent3's(450MhZ, and 667MegHz) that worked well with the orig WinXP would not boot with the SP-! included version, but we finally installed newer graphics cards(ATI Radeon 9000Pro's), and that fixed those problems. Before that We had ATI Rage Fury Maxx cards and the Pre-install anakysis run by the WinXP install disk said that the Maxx drivers might be a problem. other than that we have had no problems with SP-1 version setups.

The only problem I've seen is Windows Explorer not responding sometimes. I used the network installation method.

I've installed the slipstreamed version on several machines, with no incidents...
Yes, the USB 2.0 support was a needed upgrade..

The only negative I have noticed, is the machines take a bit longer to boot with SP-1 than they did before..

SP-1 is cool and like we beta guys like--it works. We are happy campers. Now we need to move on to Longhorn and start doing what we do best--test. We Betaone people are the best marketing people these software companies have. We test, recommend and in general do a lot of unpaid work----and all the while have a little fun.

For me the most significant improvement with SP-1 is full implementation of USB 2.0. Before, I could use my external USB hd on the installed machine, but couldn't access it over the LAN. This was true even with an Adaptec usb 2.0 card and hub, using their drivers. Now any machine on the LAN can access it--no problem.

Gee whiz. Just noticed--this is my 1000th post on Betaone. Wow! Champaigne to everybody.
