I've got two folders in my download directory that I can not delete.
This is the error I get.
If anyone could shed some light on this, I sure would appreciate it.

check the folders properties and then the security tab if you have it (if not go into folder options and untick use simple file sharing) and make sure the user you are logged on as has permissions to modify the folders.
If that doesn't work, try running chkdsk on the partition.

Weird, I expected something like COM1: or AUX:
There is no obvious reason those folders can't be deleted. There might be programs that use thee folders, or registry setting that prevent the folders from being deleted. Of course the other option is that those folders are read only, or your account doesn't have the right permission to delete them.
Try booting into save mode, or try searching the registry for occurances of these names.
If all else fails, boot NTSF Dos Pro, and delete the folders. NTFS Dos Pro is on most n-in8 CD's.

When I try to change the attributes I get the following error. I've got the computer tied up right now and can't shut down. I'll try the safemode later tonight. Thanks for the help.

This may sound stupid but lots of times I have had to turn OFF everything connected to the computer and let it set for several minutes then reboot and most times it would let me. There have been a few times when i would reach in the closet and get out the harddrive with w98 and Partition magic on it, connect it as a master and the one you are using as slave. then tell the file goodbye.

I have had this happen to me,and the only way I have figured out how to delete them is to boot up with a ME or 98 startup floppy and delete them using DOS

same,
plus, i try to delete them using Safe Mode.
it works sometimes.
this happened to me in FAT32 partitions, never happened when my hdds are NTFS. |

I tried the safe mode and ran chkdsk but no luck, next time I shut down I'll try the DOS.
