there is no problem with setting up a ftp trough a router. i have it too. just simply have your ip adres and for example 62.444.33.4 and add this to your ftp. make a username and pass and everyone can connect to your ftp

Welcome aboard mate. Hope that you will stay a while and get to know us. yay

Can you describe your router? Do you control it, or is it controlled by the company/university?

I found my problem. I have an ftp behind a router and couldn't seem to get it to work despite the forwarding of ports. What I missed was a menu in the ftp server program where you put the range of ports for PASV to use. I had forwarded a range of ports in the router, but failed to put them in that slot, which somehow I had never found in Serve-U. I discovered my error, by playing around with Bulletproof and Titan Ftp Server programs. Serve-U seems less intuitive to me, but I prefer it.

There are alot of things you might have to change here. First if you are say in a dorm, gl opening up a port to your computer but if its for home use and you are the admistrator of that router, you should have no problem.

The basic Jist of it is here..

For example, say you have a "netgear" router

open up IE 192.168.0.1

U:admin
P:1234

(That is the default Netgear User/Pass)

Once you are logged in, go to advanced or if another router, look for port forwarding.

From there, you will have to open up the port you wish to open and enter a Lan Ip for it to be fowarded to.

So if netgear, open up "port" to 192.168.0.101

Next, go to Network connections, tcip of your Lan connection and specify these settings

ip 192.168.0.101
Sub 255.255.255.255
gate 192.168.0.1

Dns
(Use your isp's) and 192.168.0.1

*Note-if that local ip is in use already, just specify another like 192.168.102 or 103 or 104, ect.

*My examples above are for a "netgear" router, all others will be setup this way but the #'s might be wrong so go to your routers site and view the tutorial on how to set it up with there settings.

o-Make sure Firewalls aslo open up this port and xp's firewall is turned off. If you do have a firewall, just close out the program to first see if you can get it going with the router to your comp then mess with the firewall
