Hello,

I want to change my CPU,

For the moment, I have a pentiumIII 550 slot one and I want to know if this one :

Pentium III (1.0GHz, 256KB, 100MHz, Slot 1)

will fit in my motherboard ? The price is really good, $106

My motherboard is an Asus P3B-F

Hey man...
I'm not really sure what you mean: According to the description given for the latest BIOS-update:

Fix Windows 2000 cannot be installed if all PnP devices in Super I/O are disabled.
Support 566MHz and 850MHz CPU with clock ratio equal or greater than 8.5x.
Revise Coppermine Vcore limit for 128K cache Coppermine.
Fix Hardware Monitor false alarm of CPU vcore when using old celeron

...you can't go faster than 850 MHz.

Maybe you are looking for anyone with personal experience from this board and 1 GHz -processors? Then that's not me unfortunately. My guess is NO though.

Can I run this Pentium III (1.0GHz, 256KB, 100MHz, Slot 1) in my motherboard ?

They said support for Pentium III 450mhz and faster Now I run a 550 Mhz

Where did you see maximum 850 Mhz maximum ?

check your motherboard manufacturer for a BIOS update. In theory you should.

Where did you get hold of it may I ask (the 1ghz CPU)?

In the first link you provided in the first post I went away to downloads and descriptions. Description for the latest BIOS-file for the board as I quoted.

When Flanderz says "In theory you should." that's right, but then there always are different factors that limits what you can and not can. It might be things like the board can't handle the higher currents needed, cooling rpoblems, the boards layout that reach a limit at a certain frequenzy. But ok, sometimes you can't really know unless you try it. In this case however I still guess no. The manufacturer has no reason not to support a higher speed if it really is possible.

hi my friend

i have a ASUS P3BF on my server n i had (some time ago) a P III/850 running at 900 Mht with no prob at all (that was d top speed that i was glad with d stability/performance of my system, but i was using DIMMS at 100Mhz... that cpu already have a FSB @ 133Mhz

i had some bad luck back then cause my VGA board died on me (MSI 32Mb tv-out)
and when that happened it also fried my 850CPU.

mmm... i always believed that my VGA was d cuse of my cpu death n not d other way around

i remember hen i bought d Mobo, that d guy who helped me put it toghether back then, sayd it would manage a P III 1.2Ghz MAX,
but i never had d chance to put my hands on a P III >900Mhz with SLOT1 to try it out

my guess is that it will manage it, i love this Mobo, only thing that u can force in BIOS (in switch mode) is d CPU core voltage that may rise a bit and WILL heat up all yr system, but for monitoring that, install asusprobe, so you can c all tempº and keep it with a nice fan (or more, preferently) in there.

IMHO i would go 4 it, m8

You have a PIII 850 in your motherboard ?

I know this mobo don't handle PIII E or PIII EB, I can't remember

Did you know if your PIII is a E or EB model ?

I have a BX440 chipset in one of my boxes. It can take a 1ghz CPU that runs 100mhz. So this can only take E CPU.

I also have a i820 chipset that can run 133FSB and is a slot mobo. This can take both E and EB.

Silly question, but have you emailed your manufacturer? They should be able to say!
