Creative Technology introduced its next-generation Audigy 2 card Monday, promising new levels of audio fidelity and a new media player. Creative also said it has developed a line of ultra-quiet PC components, which it will be marketing on a trial basis to further show off its audio lineup.
Creative's Audigy 2 boasts a sampling quality of 24-bit/192-kHz, including a "true" 24-bit audio path within the card's onboard controller, and a rated signal-to-noise ratio of 106 decibels. But more importantly, the Audigy 2 will allow DVD-Audio playback on the PC for those users with a 6X or faster DVD-ROM player.
Creative has priced the basic version of the Audigy 2 at $129.99; and the Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum 2 has an estimated street price of $199.99, the company said. Both products are slated for worldwide shipment in October.
