Power requirements for modern high end video cards have skyrocketed in the past year. NVidia's GeForce 8800 series started this trend with the Radeon HD 2900 XT taking it trend a step further. For an end user to run a system in SLI or CrossFire, this power consumption issue gets taken to a whole new level. For my part, I won't recommend purchasing a power supply under 700 watts anyone. The rub with 1000 watt + power supplies lies in these high wattage units come with a premium price tag. Many manufactures have went the route of producing units under the kilowatt mark in an effort to keep the price from exceeding $300.
