Ok.... I've had a lot of fucked up problems with my computer but this one takes the cake. I've got two computers networked using Wingate as a firewall and to share internet access between the two.

File and printer sharing is cut on, and there are 4 folders on drive D shared on the network. I assigned read / write / modify permissions to Administrators, Users, and Everyone and on the network share itself so that people could do whatever in their shared folder from the other PC.

The server is on XP Pro SP1, the client is on just XP Pro, I haven't put SP1 on it yet.

So, I start configuring KaZaa on the client PC. I set it up so that all downloads get put in \\Server\User's Shared Folder on each different account. The problem is, for some reason it will not write to their shared folders.

Then I decide to try mapping it as a Network Drive. I do that, connect to them, change the download location for KaZaa to E:\ (the mapped network share) and it still does the same thing.

So I disconnect the Network Drive and reconnect to it as Server\Sephiroth (the Admin account on the server), thinking surely if I connect to it as the Admin it will work. Nope, it didn't, won't write to the folder.

I've triple checked permissions a few times over and they are all set right. I've tried re creating the network shares, didn't work either.

Any ideas? I'm stuck on this one, lol.

ahh, got this fixed myself, that was weird..

after spending four hours reseting permissions, recreating network shares, remapping network drives, and getting ready to beat the hell out of wingate the problem ended up being NAV 2002...

I've no clue as to why, but whenever it was enabled on the client PC network shares would not work correctly, upgraded to NAV 2K3 and it's fine now

This is why I hate computers.
One isn't so bad to deal with but connect them all together and this kind of problem wastes so much of the little time I have on this planet which could have been spent enjoying life
