Catalyst 7.2, officially
DAAMIT has released a new, monthly version of its Catalyst drivers. Catalyst version 7.2 supports Windows XP, Vista, and Linux.
The highlight of the release is the improved speed of OpenGL applications under Vista. AMD claims it will increase the speed of Doom 3 by a quarter, boost Prey by 21 per cent while Quake 4 will be better by half.
These claims are based on the current speed of these apps with ATI Radeon X1000 series, but did not go into detail about how fast is this compared to default speed in Windows XP. AMD does not want to spoil Microsoft's fun with launching Vista all over the world.
Other features include new Catalyst Control Centre for Windows XP (the same as one released with 7.1 for Vista) - load times have been massively improved, so you no longer have time to start making coffee while CCC loads.
A less 3D enthusiast crowd can enjoy a 3D static preview. The driver is available for dowbload
