Although it is a little old
A SECURITY bloke has found a flaw in Apple's AirPort software which came with wireless cards shipped between 1999 and 2003 with PowerBooks and iMacs.
HD Moore, the developer of the Metasploit security tool, said that the attack entails trying to trigger a memory corruption flaw by sending a malformed data packet to the computer.
According to
ZD Net, the vulnerability only affects older hardware and is pretty difficult to carry off. However, a hacker with the time and motivation will find it possible.
If they do manage it, Moore reckons, the hacker can trigger a fatal kernel panic and force the user turn off their machine.
Apple, repeating its usual mantra about anything wrong with its software or hardware, said that it only effects "a small number of users". It will usually say this, or deny that there is a problem, right up to the day that a patch is released.
The spokesApple said the new generation of Macs were completely safe and there is nothing to worry about. So that is all right then. More
