Intel exterminates Pentium 4 Netbust family
Desktop Roadmaps Summons new numbers into existence

CHIP FIRM Intel has told its partners of its plans to wipe out entire families of processors in its Netburst family, with heaps dying in droves by Q2 of next year.

The Pentium XE dies next month, the 960 and 950 die in Q1 next year. The 940 and 830 go next month, the 915 struggles on until April 2007, while the 840 and the 830 are for the chop in a few weeks.

The 820 goes in February, as do the 660, the 670, the 650, the 640 and the 630. The 541 and 521 eke out their soon to be miserable existence until April, while the 524 goes in February.

Many of these processors will have their prices slashed by half in January next year.

As for the poor Celeron D, a whole heap of chips - the 335, 461 and 326 go in February. The 350, 345 and 310 have already been consigned to a watery grave, while the 340, 330, 325, 320 and 315 are all for the chop in Q1 of next year. Many of these processors will have their prices slashed in October by about a third.

Other highlights of an updated roadmap include the quad core Q6700, three new CPUs in Q1 next year including the Q6600, a Conroe 800 FSB the E4300. In Q2 the Pentium is reborn with the E1000 series, with a Conroe- L core, and in Q3 the 400 Celeron series also with a Conroe-L core. The Bearlake chipset will come in six flaves - the BL-X, G+, G, P, Q and the QF.
