Resistance is futile
IN A MOVE that shows that Microsoft is switching its tack on Open Sauce software, Vole has announced that it is teaming up with Linux distributor XenSource.
The move will be to develop software that will allow computers to run the upcoming version of Microsoft's Windows server on computers that are simultaneously running Linux.
The big idea is that any products will compete with VMware, which is the biggest supplier of virtualisation software.
Under the pact, Vole and XenSource say that they will cooperate on the development of technology that makes their respective virtualisation software on the same computer.
The result will be seen on the next version of the Longhorn Windows Server. Longhorn will have a public trial of Windows Server virtualisation by the end of this year.
It will see the light of day within 180 days of the date when Windows Server "Longhorn" is released, which is probably the end of next year. More
