Dell "charged me $45 to remove spyware"
Training company man miffed

THE FOUNDER of an IT training and consultancy company Field Expert, here, is mightily miffed that Dell charged him $45 to remove what he believes is 'spyware' pre-installed on his nice shiny new computer.

Michael Amor Righi said that he knew that when the Dell machine arrived it would be full of software that he would never use such as AOL coach, Dell Picture Studio and Internet Explorer. But writing in his bog here, he says he was shocked to discover My Way Search Assistant.

My Way offers to block pop-ups and provide other features for users on the web but he alleges it clocks your browsing habits to make sure that customised ads can be delivered to your machine.

Righi felt betrayed by Michael Dell, who he said is his lifelong here.

"It really hurts to see a former hero falter like this. Now I know how fans of Tom Cruise must be feeling. Michael, I thought I knew thee so well!", he writes.

Several spam removers later he is forced to call the Dell desk, who after loads of umming and ahhing send him to its software support services for help in removing the spyware. Software Support services charged Righi $49.

Righi said that what Dell was doing should be illegal. He said they are being paid by My Way to install its software on new computers, which is damn difficult to remove. Then, they charge $49 to teach you how to remove it. "This would be like a doctor being paid to infect you with a disease and then charging you for the antidote," Righi somewhat dramatically alleged.
