S-ATA II drive gets grilled
IF YOU'RE looking to upgrade your workstation or your server's storage to something much better, you might do yourself a favour and read Gamepc's review of the AMCC 3Ware 9550SX-8LP SATAII RAID controller. They compare it to controllers from Areca and Broadcom with eight WD SATA2-300 SE16 250GB HDDs. It's a tough call though between Areca and AMCC.

HKEPC has laid its hands on the Asus Extreme N7800GT Dual, the first Dual GPU card based on the 7800xx family - only 2000 of those monsters were made. The card is compared to none other than the Gigabyte 3D1 which compes with two 6600GT. Lots of close up pictures and even some comparison with the X1800XT powerhouse.

Designtechnica reviews the Canon Optura 600 Mini DV digital camcorder. It is expensive and the camera's aesthetic's is not a life changing experience. However, its recording quality and the picture it takes seem to make the scale go its way. The Optura 600 can take up to 4MP still and those, while not capable of matching the best of the DSC breed, are more than sufficient for daily needs.

One of the first I-mode phones in UK is tested at Trustedreviews, six years after being launched in Japan. The Nec N411i is reminds us of the clamshell models introduced by Samsung et al; nothing spectacular with it but a welcomed change from its bulky predecessors. I-Mode service is good and a very different experience as compared to WAP. Unfortunately, it is available only from one network which does not bode well for its long term future.

AMDZone reviews the ECS KN1 SLI Extreme, the low-budget manufacturer's SLI motherboard. The list of specs include stuff like eSATA support as well as SATA2 support, two Firewire and twin SPDIF connectors. It comes with excellent performance and a good array of features like BIOS corruption backup and extra board cooling. The Shuttle XPC SD11G5 SFF barebone computer, one which runs a Pentium M CPU. Built around the i915GM chipset, you get a good run for your money. Creative SB Live DSP, GbE Lan, SATA150 ports, Firewire, DVI, sVideo etc. It is expensive though, then when you add in the price of its processor, you will have second thoughts about it.
