Enter the 9000, the 7000, the 5000
CHIP GIANT Intel said today that the Itanium and the Xeon families are to get model numbers.
The numbers, explained Alan Priestley, European enterprise manager, will be used to distinguish features between different server chips, and use the 9000, 7000 and 5000 sequence. The slide below means we don't have to type out all the words again.
Priestley said that future server platforms will have support for new technologies including FB-DIMM memory during 2005-2006. Again, the slide illustrates what's on Intel's mind.
Further, Intel is projecting a number of processors well into 2007 and beyond, while we'll see LV versions of Sossaman, and performance and rack optimised versions of its future MV (mid voltage) processors.
