This is not your conventional front page news.

I'm posting this here for maximum public exposure. If this type of thing happens to any of our members, please submit your story to the crew for review. As it unfolds, info will be posted until it is resolved. If it ever GETS resolved.

You may have noticed in another post that I'm putting together a new box. I ordered from 3 different online vendors. The one involving the incident with UPS was ZipZoomFly.

Yesterday my power supply arrived via UPS. The driver physically handed the package to my girlfiend the package, which externally was flawless.

When I got home and opened the box I was so shocked I went into a rage. What I found was the internal manufacturer's box, looking as if it had exploded and partially crushed. Laying below that, was the powersupply itself, looking as though someone had run over it with a truck, and the rest of the parts and only about 5 packing peanuts.

I called ZZF and tore into the poor rep on the phone. I feel bad now. In the end we established that this was not ZZF'S fault. They ship their packages sealed with red tape. There was none to be found.

So it's a no-brainer. Somewhere in transit, the original package was literally destroyed. The parties/party involved in that, took the contents of the original box and put it into a new one to complete delivery to me.

To wrap up this part of the story, I "flew" to UPS, and discussed as calmly as I could the whole story with one of their loss prevention people. He said he would take care of it.

And by the way, I had to reorder this. And since I had the intention of putting this box together this weekend, I had to pay additional overnight shipping to the tune of $46.91. I had better be compensated on that.

And UPS, if you want to maintain any kind of integrity in your reputation, you would pursue the responsible persons in your employ and reprimand as you see fit.

Best of luck getting compenstated by UPS, ( I had a package delivered through UPS that only had go some 450 or so odd miles north in Califorina it end up being routed some how through Miami FL, it tooks 2.5 weeks to get a a ground package that was supposed to only take 2-3 days, Also this year it took 10 days to get another "ground package" from Winternals.. The funny thing is I only knew becase of there own tracking system, one package sat in the local airport for 3 Biz Days.

Anyways Customer No-Service reachs new lows each and everyday, I could go on and on, but that was just my experince with UPS above.

Neither Fed-Ex nor Airborne are any better...How bout when you check your tracking on the day of delivery and it says "on the truck for delivery" you sit at home and wait, you then check the status again and it's noted "attempted delivery, no one home or business closed", this has happened on more than one occasion with Fed-Ex. Or you open the package just to find that it was opened once already and repackaged, how do I know this happened? Because the idiot left a post-it note in the package that wasn't supposed to be there about how the package was destroyed in the first place. Why do they repackage them? Simple, if you except delivery and open the package then the problem is no longer the shippers (fedex, ups, airborne) but the originating place of purchase. You will need to file a complaint with both the BBB and the FTC, the FTC is a little more intimidating, and gets better results.

I happen to have a friend who worked for UPS until about a month ago. He looks at this board occaisionally and I called him and pointed this post out to him. He told me that it is policy to repackage items that have been damaged in the handling process. He told me that he has done it many times himself. It turns out that its a standard thing in this type of industry. He also said that if you work with their loss prevention and customer service people that you can re-imbursed for the damage or shipping, or additional shipping as needed (up to a certain amount that he couldn't remember but he was sure that it was greater then what you paid.)

On a side note concerning a different company - FedEx. At one point in the past I had a lot of things delivered for a project I was working on. I was ordering from one company. FedEx was the delivery company they used. I've had FedEx drive by the house and actually throw delivery items into the yard. Everyone on the street who got FedEx deliveries had experienced this at one time or another. I've watched them do it and even have a video tape of them doing it. I showed the tape to FedEx after one such 'drive by delivery'. The tape shows the driver pulling next to the curb and the package flying out the window and landing in the yard and then my wife going out to pick it up. I invited the FedEx people out to my house to view the tape and told them that if they didn't show up that I was going to send it to the local TV station (to a friend of mine) for inclusion in their 'Whats Bugging You' segment where they present problems that people have with companies. A man and woman from their 'corporate' structure showed up about 30 minutes late and kept saying that 'Our drivers dont do this sort of thing...blah blah blah". After I showed them the tape they were silent and left. The next day I got a call from them telling me that the driver had been fired and a very suitable apology. A check came in the mail with re-imbursement for all the shipping I had paid for all deliveries during the period of time that this went on.

A very interesting story largeknob! Thanks for the share and a for you for taking it that far.

When McDonald's screws up my order drive thru/dine-in I always get the problem fixed and then something extra. For example, free fries, ice cream cone or apple pie. Speak up, you can to & it's fun.

Kmart charged me retail tax on baby formula and then the night manager at the customer service desk refused to refund me. I went home and used Yahoo finance to find the corp address and CEO. I sent a letter telling what happened and I received a reply that said sorry. It included a gift card and I was told a copy of my letter was sent to all the stores.
