In a small network all PCs (workstations) are running WindowsXP Professional SP1 with static IPs from the 192.168.0.0/255 network. One of them (called "server") have 2nd NIC, connected to the ISP's switch, with static and real IP. With the help of simple ICS of that 2nd connection to the ICP, all workstations in LAN have access to the Internet - simple and effective, isn't it?
Question is: Can workstations have dynamic IP's ( "Obtain an IP address automatically" ), given from "server", but allways the same workstation lease the same IP - so called "static DHCP"? Can that be done witout help of any additional software, like WinGate and etc. Can that be done with simple modifying of server's registry? Something like: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\TCP_IP\DHCP\
with data: MAC1=IP1; MAC2=IP2 and so on...?
Thanks in advance!

Hmm not sure if it can be done via the registry like that - I think you may need to actually run dhcp from somewhere - I know for sure that you can do it with a real server (operating system) so if you have that I would install it most likely

I will keep my eyes open for other ways

BTW - Welcome to BetaONE, enjoy your stay, first beer is on me

Stringent is an unknown quantity at this point
If you have ICS it comes with a mini DCHP server built in (nothing like the proper server one though). You can set the workstations to then obtian an IP automatically and in theory it should work.

However it is best that you keep them static at this point, and would recommened you do unless you want a possible headache, then get the paracetamol out
