Alrighty, i'm upgrading my gforce2 card from 4 years ago, it was top of the line when I bought it so now I'm upgrading it to a GeForce 5900 XT 128mb card. I had 512mb of DDR ram but when I would put it in dual channel mode it would BSOD and reboot and give all sorts of problems. So i'm buying 2x512mb of Kingmax DDR3500....What kind of proformance increase should I see with upgrading my memory and videocard, I know when I play farcry it takes forever to load right now, i was hoping that it was my older stuff in my AMD 2800, but I wasn't sure. THanks for helping out, oh btw it takes far cry about 5 to 7 minutes for it to completly load.

Thanks,
PCTech

Hardware related. Moving post.

What motherboard do you have? It may be having some issue with Dual Channel.

@PCTech I see your info as shown in your post, but could you be more exact. Meaning how do you have everything connected and on which bus is what? There could be conflicts as to the arrangement of hardware, cards, etc. There have been some cases wher certain cards worked best is a certain slot.

Its an ASUS A7n8x-e deluxe. when I put 1 stick in it works fine, but when I put the other in it reboots and BSODs all the time, and if I take out the "good" stick it will reboot, and if I take out the "bad" stick then it doesn't reboot, I almost think that I have a bad ram stick. it wasn't always bad, i'm guessing that it went bad after we moved to our house this year. I know for a fact that its not the arrangement of sticks in the slots, because I have tried every arrangement I can think of, and it will do dual channel, but it does not like 1 of those sticks of ram! Doesn't ram have a life time warranty? if thats the case then I can get it replaced! I dont think it would be a conflict of hardware bus' or irq, sinse it worked fine before I changed the memory from PC2100, after I changed the RAM to PC3200, and at the same time I upgraded my HD to installed a DVD Burner. I've unhooked the upgrades I did at the same time and still that 1 stick wont stay on for more than 15 minutes.

Need Advice!

BTW, is a Gainward FX 5900 XT a good card?

Program to check your memory sticks:

About the performance gain:
you will get an incredible boost, but only if you don't forget to connect a power cord to your 5900XT...

I have an Athlon XP2600 with 1GB PC3200 memory, running dual channel and replaced my GF4 TI4200 with an FX 5900XT ........my 3dmark 2001 SE score jumped up from +/- 10,200 marks to 13,500 without any overclocking.
Since a GF2 is older than a TI4200,I suspect that you gain even more than the 30% performance I did...
