.NET kernel- better than the rest?

I seem to recall reading that .NET has a later version of the standard XP kernel than what ships with Home or Pro. Have any of our more experimental members tried putting this into other XP builds to see any sort of speed improvement or stability?

Wacky idea, I know. But it might be interesting to see the results.

You may be right, but .NET Server Family, while it has some marked improvements, seems to be only an upgrade to the W2K system. Gates said this week that Longhorn would be tied to future releases of Office, Exchange Server, and, of course, the SQL Server "Yukon" technologies, which will be used for the Longhorn file system.

So the next major revamp for NTFS seems to be in line with the Longhorn release, which means that there probably isn't a lot of difference between XP and .NET kernel.

.NET uses the same kernel as XP essentially. Its just tweaked slightly to allow background services to run more smoothly etc. I doubt the difference is noticable to most users.

You could use .NET with NTSwitch to turn it into XP Pro if you wanted to try it out.
