After switching my Comp on this morning....I can't get The TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-MI502 to work, if refuses to aknowledge that there is a disk in...

I have tried removing it from Device Manager, and rebooting, but to no avail.....

NE1 got any other ideas....

What Registry values control DVD/CDROM hardware......

Any Input appreciated....

Thanks...

Thats strange enough, have you tried removing the device from the actual computer or even tightening the data cable? If it's an IDE drive of course.. no guarantee this will work but there is a condition called chip creep that self-loosens chips from thier sockets due to frequent heating and cooling of the board. Chip creep usually affects pci slots etc.. just a chance that might be the solution but it is something to try. hope it works out for ya..

have you added any DVD burning software lately?
have you installed any Stardock apps lately?

Both of those things have done the same to me..

My solution?

Go to the system properties, and remove the DVD drive from the list of installed drives...
Reboot, windows will find the drive and life should be good again!

good luck!

i'm having what sounds like the same problem with my cd burner.

It was working fine before i changed it from slave to master (dvd drive was master and i switched it to slave), so i could boot from a cd because my dvd drive is too old and won't read cd-r's. its like you have to have the cd sitting in there just right or it won't acknowledge it being there.

i haven't tried uninstalling anything yet though. will have to try that.

also, i have just done a low level format on all my hard drives and just now got xp pro sp1 set back up on it too. i wouldn't think that would have caused it but who knows.

look at this key in your registry:

Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
if you have two values under there named UpperFilters and LowerFilters, remove them, and reboot

I tried this.....

Uninstalled from WinXP......Switched machine Off....Physically removed the Drive....Rebooted PC without the Drive......

Switched Off and reconnected the Drive......

WinXP recognised the Drive and now it ie working again....

Shame...I was hoping to buy a DVD-ReWriter....NeverMind....
