Xp Network Drive Temp Freezing

Have introduced XP pro into 2000 domain, when xp opens a network drive for the first time through explorer it hangs as if trying to retrieve the info, then opens the folder for normal browsing. This however does not happen on win2k pro and affects drives mapped from the shares on the domain controller. I have tried everything I can think of to tune this (both in XP and on the domain controller) but have hit a brick wall. I would like to be able to stop this happening but do not know where else to look, however technical the answer maybe I really need your help

Are you running WINS? How do you have the drive(s) mapped, by netbios name or IP address? Are you using logon scripts to map the drives?

Any additional info you can give may be helpful in troubleshooting the problem
