Two U.S. Astronauts, Cosmonaut Head Home

ASTANA, Kazakhstan - In a jittery first for NASA (news - web sites), two American astronauts along with a Russian cosmonaut headed back to Earth from the international space station (news - web sites) early Sunday in a cramped Russian space capsule instead of the U.S. space shuttle.

Russian Space Capsule Lands in Kazakhstan
21 minutes ago

ASTANA, Kazakhstan - Two American astronauts along with a Russian cosmonaut returned to Earth from the international space station (news - web sites) Sunday in a cramped Russian capsule, the only way home after the Columbia space shuttle disaster.

The parachute landing in the isolated steppes of Kazakhstan in Central Asia ended a mission severely shaken by the Feb. 1 accident, which led to the grounding of the entire U.S. shuttle fleet and forced a change in travel plans for the astronauts left stranded in space.

Rather than gliding to Florida in a shuttle, Kenneth Bowersox, Donald Pettit and their Russian colleague Nikolai Budarin rode in a Soyuz TMA capsule, just over two yards by two yards in size. Russian mission control announced the capsule's landing about three hours after it undocked from the space station.

They are the first NASA astronauts to land in a foreign spacecraft in a foreign land.

I just wonder if this isn't going to mark some sort of end for the whole space station.

Of couse it won't mark the end of the space station. Don't think that is going to happen any time soon.

If it does I will take their place. Hopefully.

cya,
Will

If anyone is interested in Visually seeing the ISS down load satscape it is freeware satelite tracking software. You will need to update the KEPS after you download it. KEPS is the satelite tracking info. the program will do it with a push of a button. I have saw the spacestation 3 times last month. it look like a very very bright airplane with no flashing lights usually you have to wait about 5 minutes after what the program says because it starts when the ISS breaks over theharizon and it will have to get fairly high for you to see it. believe it or not the solar panels are so big on the thing and if everthing is right it will work like a big mirror you should be able to watch it go over for several minutes you will know it if you see it.

I talked to Mir space station several years back and iam waiting to get a chance to talk to the ISS when the get all there amature radio equipment back up and running. anyone wanting to try and see this i will be glad to help all i can and here are some sites before i go.
you can also have the times at which you can see the spacestation emailed to you some months you may only get one email a month, remeber everthing has to be just right to see it.

Another ISS Sighting last night here in western KY. It was not as bright as the last one but it is always a sight to see.

I wonder what would be like to live without a Big Mac for 6 months.
