Hey,

Well I am really get sick of this crap. This is like the 5th time I have seen this.

Stupid pos.

Not sure why it is happening either. I know its not because of overclocking when max temp. is 42c. and I even cut back a little. POS

It is a pain in the ass when you are in the middle of something and it does that shit since I have to close explorer.exe and even a few times was so bad I had to restart.

It tries using all my memory. Yesterday I let it just sit there when it did it and it used 1386mb of ram. I have 1536mb. Only WindowsXP is doing it. Linux Mandrake 9.1 is working fine and so is Windows98 SE.

No damn spy-ware, no virus, nothing, that's a promise.

BTW it is totally random. I even used system restore and I went back two weeks to my last ghost. Before it was doing it. Same problem.

Not sure what the hell is wrong. I know its not the memory because it's all new and I got it tested by a friend. None the less, I am about to get another 256mb DDR stick from a friend and see if it still happens.

So it must be windows. No new software installed either. Nothing on system startup. Using reg-edit and msconfig. I did it 1 program by 1 program and it still does it.

Just a pain in the ass. Don't get me wrong it does not do this all the time. Just a few times in the last week.

cya,
Will

This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows XP service pack that contains this fix
In other words it is a bug that will be "hopefully" repaired in an up and coming service pack.

You "could" try running this command also: regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\zipfldr.dll /u. Apparently some people have had good luck using that.

were you by any chance looking at an avi file at the time? xp has a bug in it atm that if you even try to look at the properties of an avi file that has a corrupt header, it'll screw up and try to load the entire contents of the avi file into ram, so if the avi is 500 megs, explorer will use 500 megs, happened to me yesterday twice for a 700 meg file i was trying to delete... lolol

Wasn't this issue subject of a MS Knowledge Base article Q815411? My memory is fuzzy on this and I can't seem to find the thread here, or the article on MS's site. MS apparently recognizes this problem which appeared with SP-1 installed and will provide a patch on request. The fix should be part of SP-2 when it comes out. I believe the patch file is called Q815411_WXP_SP2_x86_ENU.exe. It's 550kb. If I am right, I installed that patch after suffering this problem. It has not recurred since that time.

Somebody correct me if I'm not remembering correctly.

Yea thats it. Already have it installed. It fixed a few problems for me such as add/remove programs and internet explorer loaded very slow before i installed the patch.

Well well well... Got two new sticks of 512mb ddr ram. Love my extended warranty. Glad I bought it from a friend.

Turns out it was the ram. I took it back to my friend and he tested it again and found something wrong with it.

And gave me two new sticks for free.

Very strange. Never have had this happen to me before.

But no more problems now it seems. Just ran SiSoftware Sandra Professional 2003 on my comp. and it passed with flying colors.
