i downloaded the first part of The Ring (Movie). its svcd and the format is .mpg. i can't open the file. i downloaded it and it was part of a .bin file. i used daemon tools to read it. and when i open the file, it says the format is not supported or the file is corrupt. could this be that the file is corrupt? i installed the LATEST divx codecs and all other codecs i could find. and still no go.
i'm downloading the 2nd half now. but it'll take at least 3 days before its complete. i know. i'm on a slow network. anyway. if there is something else i can try, please let me know.

If its already burnt to (s)vcd and has an mpg extension then it needs converting. You need to find a program called dat2mpg, rename the movie's extension to .dat, run dat2mpg and it will convert the movie into a standard mpg.
AFAIK even though at present the movie says its an MPG it has had the header modified by the encoder when it was burnt.
The MPEG2 format of SVCD files is not directly supported by WMP. Reborn is thinking that the video file is a .DAT file (a special MPEG1 format) which is used in a standard VCD (by the way these files can usually be played directly with WMP). I recommend you burn the BIN.CUE image file to a CD and use PowerDVD version 4.0 to play the disc. This works great for me. Many stand alone DVD players also support the VCD and SVCD format. My APEX 3201 plays SVCDs just fine.
i have the ace mega codecs and intervideo windvd installed and always test the movies i get before i burn them. it will play dat files too.
