THE WINTEL ALLIANCE will move into fifth gear for the introduction of its hyperthreading technology across the entire range of its Pentium 4 desktop chips, it has emerged.
And it will time the introduction of its "Springdale" and 800MHz front side bus to coincide with a huge advertising splash, and a renewed amount of expenditure for its partners using the Intel Inside programme.
It is to offer seminars on the claimed benefits of hyperthreading, and will combine this with campaigns aimed at retailers and its distributor and reseller network, as well as a veritable blizzard of press briefings.
But the most interesting chunk of the HT push will be a scheme hatched with Microsoft which will use Office 11 as the engine, and somewhat bizarrely called the "Fellow Traveller" scheme. That means that both Microsoft and Intel will demo the claimed benefits of Office 11 and hyperthreading at selected industry venues.
