right click on your start button and click explore and you should see it if its not there I dunno .....

You could try Start/Search and enter the word "Recycled", then when the correct one, on C:\ perhaps, shows up, just drag the icon onto the Desktop and make it a shortcut.

On windows XP- Right click on the desktop--> Click the desktop tab-->Click the "Customize Desktop" button---> Make sure the Icon is selected to be shown

Yea and if that dont work use tweak ui to repair and choose what icons are on the desktop.
