You could try here for NIMO if you don't have them:
_http://www.btinternet.com/~nimosiro/
Read the notes at the top of the page before installing though
Zoom player here is pretty versitile:

When you say it doesn't want to play movies, what is Media Player telling you. Is it having a problem locating a codec. You didn't mention whether you have DivX codec or not. If not you'll quite often have problems.
PS: This site was recommended by one of the folks on BetaOne:

Does this play the movies?
C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\mplayer2.exe
Where C:\ is the root drive.
If so, you could try reinstalling wmplayer.

Sounds to me like you dont have the divx codecs installed.
Go here: http://www.divx.com/ and download the divx package. You will get a player and the codecs required. Be sure to download the free one
After downloading and installing you will be able to view your movies in either media player or the nice divx player that comes with.
Let us know if you get this fixed

In the media player tools/options/file types, do you have all the boxes checked?

I am sure you have thought of this, but ... have you clicked help - check for player upgrades?
