need help

i am trying to install a second hd cause the first one is too small is there anyway to get it to recognise the other drives its driving me batty
help plsssssssssss

I'm not sure I follow your question. Did you format your new hard drive?

G'day Boss , some more details would be helpfull.
Are you trying to install your new drive just for storage or to run the OS. ??
First make sure your BIOS is setup to autodetect drives.
Next make sure the drive is partitioned , then formatted.
If the drive is brand new it may not be ready.

Also look that you have master-slave pins setup
correct for your new hard drive.

make sure that your secondary ide channel is open in device manager AND bios, if this drive is on secondary channel

i got the hd issue sorted now the problem is that i install it and windows doesn't boot up i can't get my comp to accept anything other than my cd burner and it doesn't read properly
i need help

oh and its supposed to be 6gb and its reading as a 3gb and i formatted it and its still appearing as a 3
i wanna use it for storage

I had some trouble with XP not likeing to have 2 HD's on 1 channel.
You might try putting your cd on ide1 as slave to master HD and set up the new drive on ide2 as master and any other ide hardware as a slave on ide2
Also if you are using the new 80 pin ide cables, make sure that the master is on the END, slave in the middle(gray) and the blue connector on the Mainboard.

ok i am a bonehead
i have it reading the second hd but the 3rd i wanted to install isn't accepted and i have racked my brains on it anyhow the 2nd drive needed to be made active and is working now

ok here is a question can i now disconnect c drive to install windows on the bigger drive and how do i install win98 if the cd isn't reading properly can i just make a copy of it and install windows cause it is driving me nuts

If you don't care about the data on your C drive just remove it and reconfigure the D drive to be the boot drive. The boot from a Win98 floppy with the CD drivers on it and install from CD. If you care about the data, you can do all of the above, then hook up the original C drive later as D or E and copy the data from it.
