I want to uninstall IE and reinstall it.

Add/remove programs on winxp does not delete IE for real. It uninstalled and reinstalled it really fast. I think it just hides the shortcuts.

So the question is how can i totally uninstall IE and then reinstall it.

Not only that but I had an IE window open on acceindent when it supposely deleted it. Would have given me a file protection error if it was realy deleteing it.

Since lite98 does not work with winxp what will?

Please help,
Will

PS: Already tried reinstalling sp1 to fix my problem but no go. Also i dont want to loose all my computer settings so dont tell me to repair widnows. i know there must be another way. Thanks a lot!!

Did you try, just download the web installer for IE6 ? Maybe it will install the latest build and solve your problems ?

if that doesn't work, you're pretty screwed....

you can't uninstall IE in XP, you can only uninstall or choose to repair IE if you've upgraded to a newer version, which was possibly on every other windows OS, but not XP, as there is no IE 6.1 or 7 yet... so, if that doesn't work, the only things i can tell you to do is do an sfc /scannow or boot off the xp cd and choose to repair the install

Hi Will,

Try to get the full version of IE6SP1. Here is how:

IE6SP1 Setup laucher
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...S/ie6setup.exe

First create a folder C:\IE6,
Then download the above file to that folder

Start the run dialog and type this command WITH quotes!!
"C:\ie6\ie6setup.exe" /c:"ie6wzd.exe /d /s:""#E"

To get the FULL version:

Hope that fixes your problems. Otherwise as Sephiroth said, you're screwed

If you never upgraded IE you can still force it to re-install with a registry hack.

Download the IE6 setup file first then change this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components \{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}\IsInstalled

Right now the "value data" is a 1, change it to a 0 (zero). The IE setup will not recognize the version you have installed and will allow it to continue like a new install.

Best of luck,
Dave

XP gives you the option to remove IE in the Add/Remove System Components in the Add/Remove Program files directory ... But what it actually does is remove the icons and such, and leaves the Program File Folder there, so if you would try to remove it then go to the program file (you can't delete it by the way) and click on the IE icon in it, it would start .. In order for XP to run properly you need to have it installed.. SO you saying that you tried to remove it and then reinstal it, you were just trying to copy over what was already there.
