It's all about the widescreen these days. Perhaps it's the expectations set by the glut of HDTVs on the market (which are all widescreen), or maybe it's some combination of increased screen size with more widescreen content on PCs (movies, widescreen-supporting games, etc), but the wide display is quickly replacing that tired old 4:3 ratio. And good riddance! Once you get used to the increased horizontal area of a widescreen monitor, it's hard to go back. You feel downright cramped on one of those near-square screens.
