When I first saw that Dell was planning to sell computers through Walmart (
http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,13.../article.html), I was a bit mystified. My previous experiences with Dell's traditional direct sales model -- you configure the exact PC you want, they build it to order and send it to you -- seemed like a perfect situation for both customers and the company, so why introduce the inefficient, old retail method?
But after spending some time on Dell's site earlier today, the Walmart announcement made perfect sense: Dell needs another channel for selling PCs because they've totally screwed up the one they had. Why? The answer's not surprising: Greed.
