E6400 does SuperPi in 16 seconds
Hardware Roundup 3.4GHz T2600 beats 7.2GHz P4
HKEPC has another scoop with a Conroe E6400 overclocked to nearly 3.11GHz from 2.16GHz, nearly 50% overclock. Man, that baby did Super Pi 1M in 16s.

How it translates in real life is something that has to be seen but still, 16s in Super Pi is something unheard of and bodes very well for Intel and sends very bad vibes towards AMD. I sincerely hope that the K8L and K10 can provide some strong competition to Conroe. Not since the transition from 286 to 386 have I seen such a huge jump in performance between two Intel CPU families.

Meanwhile at HWbot.org via Madshrimps, you can catch sight of a Core Duo T2600 to 3.4GHz, from 2.16GHz - that's a jump. Compared to the above, it takes slightly longer - 17.765s - to complete the 1M calculation. That is even faster than the world record currently held by Tom Holck with a P4 670 clocked at 7.2GHz. Yonah's core is proving to be more than a match for the P4. God knows what would have happened if Intel had decided at that time to continue with the P3 family rather than go P4's way.

Over at Xbitlabs, Noctua Coolers are examined closer - the NH-U9 and the U12. Noctua are produced in Austria with the help of Taiwanese intelligence. Aptly named the towers, they are based on heat pipe technology with dozens of aluminium plates. The coolers were compared to the Thermaltake Big Typhoon and the AMD Box cooler and the Noctua did best the Big Typhoon. No fans are included and it does not cool the mainboard's PCB.

Bit-tech tests the Zalman HD 160HTPC casing which looks more at ease under a plasma TV than under a computer monitor. With Vacuum Displays and a finish that rivals the best Hifi separate components, the Korean manufacturer seems to live up to the expectations - at a very high price. But you get what you paid for. The package includes a IR receiver and a media centre remote control. On top of that, Zalman has done an excellent job in keeping everything cool. For connoisseurs.

Pocketlint tests the Hawking HWU8DD wireless adapter with built in dish antenna. It is not suite to mobile use because it is so big but it is a high gain antenna which uses a tried and tested technology - dishes. You might not like it but it works and that's the most important. For the reviewer, it is a no-brains purchase. Whenever they tried it, the signal improved and their overall wireless experience improved dramatically. The best thing though, apart from the price, is that you do not have to change your existing setup. ITreviews tests the new AN8 motherboard from Abit. The 32x in their name simply means that they have twice 16x PCIe lanes. Nothing extraordinary. The rest is almost rivial thanks to the Nforce 4 Ultra it uses - things like ten USB ports, six SATA connectors, 5.1 audio etc are quite common now and constitute the norm. It is compared to a DFI Lanparty UT motherboard. The board is passively cooled and performance wise it is up there with the best.
