Am running XP, the "Devils Own" version and recently my copy was branded in the right lower corner with the words:
For Testing Purposes Only. Build 2600.
Is this going to cause problems?

no, if you want to delete this info from your dekstop just create a .bat file with this statements und run it
@echo off
echo Remove sp1 build no from desktop (xpsp1) by wet paper bag (and bophoe)
echo.
echo this will remove "Testing purposes only" and build no from your desktop
pause
echo.
reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SystemCertificates\CA\Cert ificates\FEE449EE0E3965A5246F000E87FDE2A065FD89D4 /f
reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SystemCertificates\ROOT\Ce rtificates\2BD63D28D7BCD0E251195AEB519243C13142EBC 3 /f
echo.
echo all done, reboot for changes to take effect
pause
have a nice day

Or you can right click on the desktop, put the mouse where it says - Arrange Icons By and make sure the Lock Web Items on Desktop is checked.

5.1.2600 is the FINAL build of the Windows XP OS. So howcome he got "for testing purposes only". May be he's installed SP1 Beta version or something else. Bad move

He may have installed the WMP9 Beta.
You will get the "for testing purposes only" when installed.
Fisher Tx for the bat file

Actually I'm a she and per Noavatar, that's exactly what I did, installed WMP9, not knowing that this would happen. Have since changed the key on XP and considering installing SP1.
Thanks very much to Kernel, the bat file worked. And thank you to everyone else who replied.

I've been using sp1 1090 w/out any problems. As long as you don't have the fck.. key you should be fine to upgrade after the 28th when sp1 goes final.
