Winxp Update Kb837001 Froze

While doing the install phase of KB837001, extremely slow progress, still some activity after 1H 45M. Rather not reboot in middle of Update, lost an NT4 box that way. Going to give it another hour or two, then reboot and hope for the best. Of course, trusting in Windows as I do, I have backed up all important stuff!

Rebooted after 2 hours, KB837001 finally installed on the third try, looks OK so far...

I was having all sorts of issues with WindowsUpdate today... I went to update my father's and little brother's computers and it seemed like during the download process of the updates, it would freeze... I had to cancel out on the download and do and ALT+CTRL+DEL to end the IEXPLORER.EXE process and then run WindowsUpdate again. I had to do this a few times before it completed the download phase... The install phase was fine though... Perhaps there was something going on on Microsoft's end?

I read somewhere the slowdown was due to all the new Win2003 updates available. I was having a similar problem with a Win2K box a few weeks ago, just wouldn't update at all.

yea, sometimes when ms unrolls massive updates for the first couple days it will be very difficult to do online update cause it's slow and unreliable.

your best choice is probably to see which updates you're missing and download and install them individually.

Windows Update 4 is having major problems atm.

Windows Update Version 5 test site is working fine. Downoading going over 1mbps.
