well.. technically you can mix them.. but there might be speed problems, maybe the 2700 would fault to 2100 etc.. depending on setup.

Its best to get the same speed RAM in a system. Most times the 2700 will clock to 2100 speeds, there might be compatibility issues though, but on the other hand, it all could work

Both BlackMantis & Flanderz are right. If you mix RAM of different speeds, by default, the speed of ths higher RAM module matches the lower one... You shouldn't have any problems if you do decide to mix them.

Yeah you can mix them alright. I have them mixed, but to avoid any errors whatsoever (haven't tried that auto detection option in BIOS), I have underclocked my PC2700 to a PC2100. Underclocked? Yeah, so that I can have 2/2/2/6 timings. But you might even be able to overclock your PC2100 to a DDR333 to match the other RAM stick. Mine just works perfectly (overclocked) with moderate (default) timings.

Yes its true that the ram will follow the lowest one however it will cause some instability at times and plus its a lil waste of money to buy a fast one and a slow one but it is said it will work

The PC2700 gonna slow down her speed to a PC2100 speed !!

Sometime, ( that's happen to me 2times ) one of the stick of memory can blow out ... so watch out man !!

Well as everyone has alrady said, you can mix them but.......what are you running now ( How Much Ram )? Also What are  you going too ( Ram) and what are you going to use the system for. It just might not be even worth adding more depending on the system and USER.

Just something to think on.

I just tried the combo of 1 gig pc2700 and 512 pc2100. It would run for about 5 minutes then dump all the memory and bsod

the slower memory must go in slot one. that sets the speed. the faster memory will then be set to the speed of the slower memory.
