Read Only Attribute Problems In Winxp Home

I just did a fresh install of winxp home and installed all the latest updates and keep getting this problems with read-only attributes!!

When I right click a folder to change its attributes the
>read only attribute is on, I remove it and if I close
and
>open it again the read only is selected again. I did the
>same thing to the master folder and the same thing
>happens. I tried some free programs to remove the
>attribute and I also tried removing it from the cmd.

I am not sure what you are trying to do - what you are describing sounds "normal" or the default setting- a faint check mark beside the Read Only Attribute under Properties for a folder.

When you try to change the Attribute from Read Only to Archive ( and removing the check mark from the Read Only square)does
the check mark appear darker? If so - everything seems "normal"
to me.

No it seems the same colour!! Cant even move a file or edit any file on my pc because it keeps saying it read only!!! I tried disabling by

Did you try doing it in Command Prompt...

Or

...and get the same result?

What exactly did you do the reinstall from?
The original media that you used the first time, when you had no problems
or some kind of "back up" media?

Re-installed it with the original winxp home edition cd from dell. yes I tried
