What burner program you using? What burner?

Unrelated to DVD, I have had many coasters using Nero at 48-52X. But, never any problems burning at 24X on my Sony 2.4X burner. It's really weird--but I can now be sure that everytime I burn a bootable cd on the fast cd burner with Nero, I'll have a coaster, whereas with Disk Juggler or others, it's ok.

I upgraded my Sony DVD DRU 500 burner's firmware. The 4X DVD disk makers say on the package that 2.4x burners will not work correctly with the new 4x dvd+R dvd's without making a firmware upgrade. They also say that the upgrade will not increase the burn speed. ...merely reduce data errors. Guess what? Not only do the dvd's burn great--they burn at 4x. Go figure. I've done at least 10 DVD movie burns at 4X since doing the upgrade and all are perfect. Movies.

I see my origional post was lost. Anyways, what was basically happening is that I used a new DVD writer and dvd's burned fine but ... no such luck with normal cd's. Tried everything, even re-installing XP and starting fresh, no luck.

Then today I removed the DVD drive (Sec Slave) so that only the DVD writer was left. (Sec Master).

Now it sudenly worked fine. But as sson as I reconect the slave, no go. This boggled my mind. I then noticed that the writer was last on the cable and the slave was first. (It worked like this before)

Swopped it around and now everything works again. Why? Don't ask me, but it does.

Is there anyone that can shed some light on this?
