WinXP WIth SP1, P4, 2 gigahertz. Tyan S2099GNNR Mobo , Trinity I845e chipset. Award Bios.
Had 2 hard drives on Pri IDE controller, and 2 burners on Secondary IDE.
To make room for third IDE drive, I enabled my 2 Promise RAID controllers, and put one h Drive on each Raie, each as master..All seemed to run well, till I realized my External USB 2 Hard drive doesn't work because all 6 onboard USB 2 ports have become plain USB.
A window sais " A hi-speed USB device has been connected to a NON-hispeed USB port. Put this device on one of 8 unused Hi-dpeed ports available on USB Root HUB"
MY computer does not recognize thwe external HD, but in Device Manager It shows The hispeed USB as installed and working properly and No Conflicts.
I Tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, and Updating drivers and rebooting in between....no difference.
Could this be because the swith from Pri IDE to RAID, some connections are totally screwed up???
In win 98 and 95 one could easily rewinstall windows over an existing install....can this be done with WinXP SP1 ????...without losing any settings or configurations??
in Bios, the USB controller is enabled as before.
Has anyone had and solved this type of problem, or am I in for a complete reinstall ???
thanks
