@Unicorn - thanx for the help, you're right about the poorly written software from Symantec! It works most of the time, but it has it's moments.
Well all i can say and you may have done it is uninstall the nav and us the un-installer from norton's site

then

install the firewall 1st and then reinstall nav 2000 after [or update it to at least 2001/2002 which isnt bad]

Thanks doder, I'll give that one a try. I'm planning to install NAV2003 so both app versions match.
