I have downloaded and installed the new program HotP2P and want to test it out with someone on the board.
HotP2P allows users to set up file-sharing public/group/private folders for other users they link up with. You can have a public folder for all your HotP2P contacts (public), group folders just for certain users (private, i.e. family, schoolmates, clubs, business, etc), and a folder for each HotP2P user (personal).
I have a 21 day trial copy and I want to test out the program. Looking at it, the program seems to be setup nice and many special options to configure if you want.
Here's more info:
Description & Features
HotP2P is a peer to peer program that allows you to exchange an unlimited number of email and files with friends also using HotP2P.* You can attach multi-gig files to your messages and instantly send them to as many other HotP2P users as you wish.* Other features include private chat and a private website.* The HotP2P program doesn't rely on any external servers to link up with other users.* You can create a link to one other HotP2P user or to thousands.* Web links to community messages, advertisements, and help files on the HotP2P website are also included in the program.
Since no in-between servers are used for communicating with other HotP2P users, it's necessary to keep your HotP2P program running 24 hours, 365 days a year.* HotP2P is composed of one main visible program, and one background program.* The background program is a mini-file server used for email/file transfer and for the viewing of web files in the web folder.* This background server can be turned on/off in the (Customize) section of the main visible program.* If you turn if off, your HotP2P contacts will only be able to communicate with you through the HotP2P (Chat) feature.
Unique ID
The first time HotP2P runs, it creates a unique identity number to identify you from all other HotP2P users.* It's important you keep a copy of this number somewhere else in case something goes wrong with your computer and you need to reinstall a fresh new copy of HotP2P.* This number is used only by other people you communicate with who are also using the HotP2P program.
Setup
After installing the program, it's necessary to customize your identity in it.
First, click the (Customize) toolbar button.*
Then click the [Edit Identity Info] button and enter your name, organization (if any), Internet/Network IP addresses, chat/files ports, and select whether or not your PC or router uses DHCP.* Unless you have a preference to use other chat/files ports, use what's already entered.* If you don't know whether or not your PC or router uses DHCP, just leave that selection checked and leave the (Conf Ping Frequency) at 20.
When you're done, click the [Save Identity Info] button.
Adding Contacts
To add friends you wish to communicate with, who are also using HotP2P, click the "Contacts" toolbar button.
There, click the [New] button at the bottom of the Contact List form.* Next, type in your friend's name, IP address, chat/files ports, and select whether or not they're using DHCP.* If you wish to allow them to see/download files in your HotP2P shared folder, click the (Shared Files) checkbox.* If you wish to allow them to see the web pages in your HotP2P web folder, click the (Shared Web) checkbox.
After entering the above contact info, you now need to exchange passwords.
This part may require you to do this over the phone with your friend on the other end who is also adding you to their list of HotP2P contacts.* A 30 character alpha-numeric password is automatically created and entered into the "Here" text field.* You can click the [Generate] button if you wish to generate a different one, or you can enter one you came up with on your own.* After this, you need to tell your friend what password was created in the "Here" text field.* Your friend will then type this into the "There" text field of his HotP2P contact record for you.* Your friend will then tell you the "Here" password he created, and you then type that into the "There" text field of your HotP2P contact record for him.* Next, click the [Save] button.
After exchanging passwords, you both then need to [Link Up] with each other's HotP2P programs.
Click the [Clear] button to clear whatever contact unique ID may be shown.* Afterwards, click the [Link Up] button.* Your friend needs to do the same on his end as well.* You will both get an instant confirmation message if the [Link Up] succeeded.
Multiple Users on an Internal Network
It's possible for multiple users on an internal network (home or business) to use HotP2P to communicate with each other and with those outside their network.* If each user's computer is assigned a different public Internet IP address, each user can use the same default chat/file ports (9060/9061) if they wish.* However, if each user's computer is assigned a different internal network IP address (192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254), each computer would need to use different chat/file ports (i.e. computer 1 uses 9060/9061, computer 2 uses 8060/8061, computer 3 uses 7060/7061, etc.) just as long each computer uses chat/file ports different from the ones used by the other internal network HotP2P users.* The available port range that can be used is (1024 to 65535).* In either case, whatever ports are assigned, both ports need to be forwarded through any firewall or router direct to those computers running HotP2P.* Please check with your network administrator or whoever set up your Internet connection regarding this.
Please note that those users' computers in an internal network using different internal network IP addresses (192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254) need to use those same addresses when setting up links between themselves.* When setting up links with those outside their internal network, they need to use the public Internet IP addresses assigned to those contacts.
Customizing
Web Sharing - Any html files you put into the HotP2P web folder will be visible to your HotP2P contacts that you've given access to your web folder.* This allows you to create a simple website with sub-folders and other html files that only your HotP2P contacts can see and interact with.
Shared Folders/Files - Sub-folders and files you put into your HotP2P shared folder will be visible to your HotP2P contacts that you've given access to your shared folder.* Any .jpg picture file you put into each of those folders that begins with "HotP2P_" will be shown each time your HotP2P contacts accesses that shared folder.* These .jpg picture files' dimensions should start out at 400 X 400 pixels.** The maximum width for these picture files is 400 pixels, but the height can be increased to whatever you wish and is limited only by your contact's screen height.
Private Folders/Files - Sub-folders and files you put into your HotP2P private folder will only be visible to those contacts you put in folder lists you create.* All users put into such folder lists will be able to access files in those particular private folders you put there.* The names of the folder lists and the immediate private sub-folders must match, otherwise they won't be visible to anyone.
Chat Ring - When ringing another HotP2P contact using the HotP2P chat feature, a doorbell sound is played.* If you wish, you can remove that file, "ring.wav", in the HotP2P directory and replace it with different wav sound file.
Privacy and Copyrighted Material
At PlayApp, developer of HotP2P, the privacy of our users is something we respect and we will do all we can to keep it that way.* There is no spyware whatsoever included with any of our software.* Regarding the distribution of copyrighted material, we ask that all users of HotP2P to please check the copyright notice of such material and to respect all applicable copyright laws of their community before emailing/sharing them.
EDIT - Sorry should have put the download link before. :P

Sounds like a neat program, but you wouldn't want me to test it out with you. I'm on a 56k, and it's only connected at 26.4.

@billybob3
What I really want to test out is setting up a private account and maybe some of the functions. Even a few small files would be nice. Your speed would be a problem. Maybe we could play with it soon. Not sure when a good time would be for you. Maybe this weekend for me.

Thanks guys for all your help. I never had it lockup my system, but friend of mine did. Maybe I'll wait for a newer updated version to come out, because I don't care for the way this one works.
Thanks again to all!

I couldnt get it to connect to anyone, with or without a firewall
Have noticed a program called Trash which looks remarkably similar (Almost exactly the same in fact), may give that a try
