Tbird 1.4, 80 g and 60 Gig Hd

For some reason now my sytem will not warm boot..

i.e if I update say the video driver .. and prompt for restart ..

the screen will display some system file missing or noskernel.exe missing?

and following that I SWITCH OFF the PC for 2 minutes .. and it will startup to XP no probem?

Is this the MB issue ?

I have swap the memory around

I have 3 x 256M ram

have tried it with 1 x 256M, 2 x 256M ram with each one and it still give the same probelm..

I thought it was the heat issue .. I put a delta fan for the heatsink.... not helping either?

BTW if I coold boot to XP ... I can play any game for hours without lockout.. and the system is very stable ?

I have also re-installed XP fresh
still no warm boot ?

anyone experience such strange encounter before ?

Is it a dual boot?
If so, how long before the default OS kicks in?

This problem started when I dual boot.. winme/XP

then I format the partition and install XP on C:

the problem persist..

I thought of virus or trojan..

When ever I install or update any application and need to restart .. the system will not able restart XP..

But when I swtiched off the PC for 2 minutes ..it will boot to XP as normal..

real strange..

I am certain its the motherboard with a reisitor or condenser started to get faulty ?
which I am not sure how to fix rather than to replace the Motherboard..

I just hate to do it just after Xmas :-)

$ is a bit tight ..

BTW I have formated partition and reinstall XP countless time
and this applied to freshly installed XP as well

XP or Xp-Sp1 ?

Dudelive is an unknown quantity at this point
First of all I would format the drive by writing "0`s" to it with a good disk utility. This will completely wipe the drive in a way that just formating will NOT do. Some viruses don`t like it when you try to format. This way you can be SURE there are no viruses on board.
Secondly install a factory burnt cd ( you can always install something later ) , if all works fine with factory burnt cd then you know it is an installation problem.
If at this point it is not working correctly then you can almost be sure it is hardware not software.
Good Luck I always keep windows 98 handy for testing purposes.

I agree with Dudebuoy. You need to do a LLF (Low Level Format) This means writing all 'zeros' to your hard drive. You will need to go to your HDs website and look for the tools you need. This should be a zip file you will need to unzip and copy to a floppy.

WARNING! This will destroy ALL info on your HD so backup all data you can. LLF may take several hours. When you are done, do NOT install WinME! Install XP and learn how to use it.

Good luck!
