I am trying to install a printer that is shared on another computer (WinXP OS) on an NT4 machine. It detects the network printers, but whenever I point it to where the WinNT printer drivers are to install, it comes up

Unknown printer driver

Basically I can't get the printer to install. Anyone know a work aroud or how to do it? They are the right drivers for the printer. However the printer works if it is locally attached. Help!

Thanks.

Hi,

On the WinXP box, go to the properties of the printer. You can choose to install additional drivers for other operating systems. Of course you do need the drivers for that particular printer from the OS you are adding drivers for, since they are not on the WinXP CD.

The drivers from XP can only be used by WInXP and Win2K and are installed by default. Drivers for NT4 and Win9X should be installed manualy.

Hope this helps.

I'll give that another try, even when doing it that way, the XP box said unknown driver ... I'll try another one. The printer is an HP anyway!

EDIT: Hmm, its an HP Laserjet 6P. Can install the driver locally, but if installed on the XP box, it doesn't like it, (wont instal - says wrong driver) and if used by trying to install on the NT, it says wrong driver. Something werid with the HP diver me thinks.
