Lost Administrator password (XP)

If you don't know or have forgotten the password for the Administrator's account in Win Xp here is how to reset it.

Start--->Run--->type compmgmt.msc--->System Tools--->Local Users and Groups--->Users--->right-click on Administrator--->Set password.
For a more surefire method make a password reset disk. Look under Related Tasks in the User Accounts Control Panel applet, click "Prevent a forgotten password." This disk can be used as many times as needed no matter how often you change your password.

I found the above somewhere = not sure if it is what you are looking for, but.....

I found this for W2K - could work as well

In fact, if you've installed Win2k on a partition formatted with FAT or FAT32, it's not all that hard:

Boot your computer using a DOS or Windows 9x boot disk.
Type:
CD C:\winnt\system32\config

and press Enter to change to the folder where your passwords are stored. (Of course, if you've installed Windows to a folder other than C:\winnt, you should substitute the correct folder name in the command above.)

Delete the SAM file by typing:
DEL sam.*

and pressing Enter.

Remove the boot floppy and restart your machine.
When prompted for a logon name, use Administrator with a blank password.
One word of warning: The SAM file defines all the user accounts on the computer. When you delete it, you'll lose all user accounts.

Seems like you haven't got at least TWO administrators....
That's weird....

Haven't you tried the Passware Password Recovery Kit yet?
You haven't acknowledged my PM yet..
There is a thing called Windows 2000/XP Password Key ("C:\Program Files\Passware\winkey.exe").
