adams is an unknown quantity at this point
ok i don't exactly know what the problem is so i didn't know how to word it in the subject.

First, my mom's computer is networked through mine (i have two nics in mine). She can access the internet and email just fine. But with mine (connect directly to cable modem) I can't access any pages, but I can send and recieve emails and upload using cuteftp (I assume i can download but haven't tried it). Every page that tries to come up will say something like dns error down in the status bar, but i can come to hers and load the same page without any problems.

Since i don't exactly know what the problem is, it is hard for me to give a good explanation, but if anyone here has any ideas I would love to hear them.

Thanks.

edit: well i found the problem. some how a setting got changed under lan settings and it wouldn't automatically detect settings. everything is fixed now.

Hmmm... sounds like a dns issue....check to make sure that the dns settings (in your tcp/ip properties) are the same on both p.c.'s

You can also try to ping a website by ip address, and if that works, try then pinging it by it's domain name - You can use www.ibm.com and it's ip is 129.42.19.99

Hope this helps some

/JD

edit - Doh! looks like i am too slow; glad it worked out
