Restart Problems

As of late my computer will not warm reboot correctly. When trying to "restart", the computer hangs while loading Windows (2000 Pro SP3). This requires me to turn it off completely and then turn it back on to boot up correctly. If I do a normal "shut down", and then turn it right back on, every thing works fine. Does anyone have any ideas?

Another kinda related problem. With a few programs that display in full screen mode (Milkdrop) coming out of full screen mode makes me computer restart (and surprisingly, it resarts correctly). This is very annoying. I have checked all of my display settings to no avail. My drivers are fairly new but not the source of the problem unless they have software conflicts. Someone please help.

I am running an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ with Win 2000 Pro (SP3), 512 ddr, 64 mb GeForce 2 MX/400, DVD, CD Burner, and the usual.

Any advice would be appreciated.

When the program is coming out of full screen, the reason it's automatically rebooting is because it's set to automatically reboot on a system crash instead of displaying the BSOD. To disable this so you actually see the BSOD, go to the System applet in the control panel, advanced, startup and recovery, advanced, and untick Automatically Restart. Then you'll at least be able to see the BSOD, and check my post here:

to see how to analyze the crash dump it leaves for more info.

As far as not being able to warm reboot, have you updated any drivers lately? Did the problem start right after you installed SP3 or not?

Also....

Check your log for system components that are not shutting down as they should. Have had this happen personally.

Thanks for the tip. I unchecked the Automatically Restart box as well as updating my drivers with some that are only two weeks old and this has solved the problem of restarting when I come out of full screen mode. It has also "seemed" to fix my inability to warm reboot issue too. I suppose something about the old display drivers wasn't shutting down right and causing the error. I will let ya'll know if my warm reboot error is really fixed.
