I guess its somewhat true.. for dinner invites I get, they are all via telephone, and email, the days of knock knock.. "hey dude!!" have all but disappeared.
Grandpa and grandma are embracing this new technology and able to have cheap/free long distance with their adult children.
I fear however that the days when face-face communication was almost taken for granted and fairly recreational orientated, now face-face communication is rare and it pretty much privy to tasks one is given. We don't meet up if their is nothing for us to do anymore, I remember before when just talking because you were curious was the norm, now if the task isn't all but completed by the face communication you haven't accomplished your task; this puts alot more pressure, often unneeded strain on relationships. Mixed signals and a too common paralyzing compression of task oriented communication(s).
Facebook, Myspace, Friendser, Orkut... and on.. and on.. These are new forms of communications, where meetings are rarities but honored forms of communication.
The future might not be as friendly as we first thought, though with time and nurture we can slow down and lightly go over these techno speed bumps.
