Keylogger makes off with $450,000
CARSON CITY Council lost $450,000 from its general fund to hackers.
Authorities told the
LA Times that the hacker was somehow able to mimic the computer strokes made by a financial officer.
Treasurer Karen Avilla was being monitored by a key logger and the thief stole bank passwords.
The hackers wired $90,000 to a "Diego Smith" in North Carolina and $358,000 from the city's bank account to a bank in Kalamazoo.
Avilla saw the funds going and managed to freeze the transaction.
The treasurer said she is now determined to try to write legislation that could prevent this kind of computer piracy.
